Steve Jobs

The Billionaire, Steve Jobs, Lived on a $1 Salary

Despite being a tech billionaire, Steve Jobs was famously frugal with his salary, drawing just $1 a year from Apple between 1997 and 2011.

In a throwback interview, Jobs mused about the absurdity of Microsoft and Apple not teaming up to dominate the desktop market, saying their combined power was enough to cover 100% of it.

He argued that despite their differences, both companies could collaborate on projects that benefit customers and boost profits.

Jobs’ minimalist salary contrasted sharply with the $90 million Gulfstream jet Apple gifted him in 2001, plus an annual travel expense of $248,000.

While his $1 salary was a symbolic gesture, his true wealth came from Pixar and Disney stocks, proving that sometimes a tech mogul's true riches lie beyond the paycheck.

AstroForge

AstroForge’s Launch Date

AstroForge is making headlines again, unveiling the schedule for their second launch and future trips into space.

Their next big play involves the Vestri mission, set to hitch a ride with Intuitive Machines' IM-3 mission in October 2025, which aims to put a lander on the moon.

Once in space, Vestri will ditch the lunar mission to head for an asteroid, on a quest to sniff out and analyze the quality of valuable metals like cobalt and platinum.

This follows their first demo mission, Brokkr-1, which blew $10 million testing asteroid mining tech with solar power.

Meanwhile, their second mission, Brokkr-2, will see their Odin spacecraft launch aboard IM-2, snapping pics of an asteroid’s surface before the end of 2024.

The target is an M-type metallic asteroid, and for those keeping track, NASA’s Psyche mission is already on its way to the largest known M-type asteroid, 16 Psyche, due to arrive in 2029.

49ers and Brandon Aiyuk: Brandon Aiyuk finally wrapped up his contract saga with San Francisco on Thursday, snagging a four-year, $120 million deal to stick with the 49ers. After sitting out practices with a mysterious "back injury" and hinting at a trade, Aiyuk has now made peace with the team, but the Niners still have to deal with All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams, who's holding out for his own new deal.

Bruno Mars Supposed Gambling Debts: Bruno Mars is clearly amused by the buzz about his supposed gambling debts. After rumors swirled in March claiming he owed $50 million at Park MGM, MGM quickly debunked the claims, and now Bruno’s enjoying success with his hit duet “Die with a Smile,” which has sparked a TikTok trend and inspired him to share fan-made content that playfully pokes fun at the old rumors.

Wendy’s and SpongeBob Collab?: The classic American annoyance of mismatched hot dog and bun quantities has a new contender: Wendy’s square burgers on round buns. Now, Wendy’s is teaming up with Paramount to launch the Krabby Patty, the underwater favorite from "SpongeBob SquarePants," into the land of fast food. Starting October 8, this limited-time burger will be served alongside a Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty at select Wendy’s locations, though the burger's square patty might have fans questioning their geometric beliefs. Meanwhile, Wendy’s remains tight-lipped about the innovation, but if we had to guess, they’re sticking with their square patties because, as they say, "you can fit more on the grill."

Science and Technology

Interplanetary Travel is Even MORE Possible: Using a NASA rocket, scientists have finally measured a planet-wide electric field, the ambipolar field, which has been hypothesized for over 60 years to help our atmosphere escape from Earth’s poles. This groundbreaking discovery, confirmed by NASA’s Endurance mission, not only sheds light on the mysteries of atmospheric escape and the ionosphere but also hints at the secrets of other planets and their potential for life.

OpenAI’s New Project: The mystery behind OpenAI's Project Strawberry is starting to unravel, and it's looking juicier than ever. Slated for a potential Fall release, this new AI is rumored to ace math and programming tasks with a flair that might finally fix ChatGPT’s chronic math fails and inability to handle complex puzzles. While the project was initially shrouded in secrecy, hinting at deep research capabilities, the buzz now is that Project Strawberry could outperform current chatbots by solving tricky problems and even contributing to the next-gen ChatGPT or future AI training. Sam Altman’s cryptic tweet about loving summer strawberries has only added to the speculation, but insiders suggest that we might get a taste of this powerful AI very soon.

Generative AI Can’t Say Strawberry: So, how many “r”s are in “strawberry”? According to top-tier AI like GPT-4o and Claude, the answer is a resounding two—though you might find that amusingly off if you’ve seen these AIs struggle with simple tasks. These marvels of modern tech can churn out essays and solve complex equations in a snap, yet they sometimes bungle the basics so badly that it’s meme-worthy. The problem? They don’t actually read text; they just deal with numbers, making them clueless about letters and syllables. But while their math errors and peculiar missteps give us a chuckle, OpenAI’s upcoming Strawberry AI promises to be sharper, potentially solving tough puzzles and cracking math problems like a pro—assuming it can avoid the banana peels its predecessors have slipped on.

Berkshire Hathaway: We have had segments on Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway a lot lately but he and it has been overdue for something massive. On August 28, 2024, Berkshire Hathaway strutted into the trillion-dollar club, becoming the eighth U.S. company to hit a $1 trillion market cap with its Class A shares peaking at a jaw-dropping $699,699 each. While Berkshire is the first non-tech giant in the U.S. to reach this milestone, Saudi Aramco beat everyone to the punch globally. Meanwhile, Meta's rollercoaster valuation saw it join the trillion-dollar elite first in 2021, crash to $240 billion by late 2022, and make a triumphant comeback in early 2024.

OpenAI: Since OpenAI unleashed ChatGPT in 2022, generative AI has set Wall Street ablaze, with Nvidia (NVDA -6.39%) cashing in big time as the go-to chipmaker for this tech craze. Nvidia's second-quarter earnings report was nothing short of explosive, with revenue rocketing 122% to $30 billion and net income soaring 168% to $16.6 billion, smashing analyst predictions. But before you rush to buy Nvidia stock, keep in mind that despite the current hype, the AI boom could fizzle if the tech doesn't deliver on its lofty promises and if competitors keep offering cheaper alternatives.
