OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gave out Free Money
OpenResearch, led by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, discovered that providing $1,000 a month to some of the poorest Americans for three years helped cover basic needs like food, housing, and transportation but did not significantly enhance their long-term financial health or physical well-being.
The study, which included 1,000 recipients and 2,000 control participants, found that the cash increased spending on essentials and healthcare, yet also led to more debt and a reduction in overall work income.
Despite these mixed financial outcomes, some recipients used the funds to start businesses, particularly among Black participants and women.
The findings indicate that while unconditional cash grants offer immediate relief and flexibility, they are not a complete solution for addressing income inequality or ensuring economic stability.
The experiment carried out by Sam Altman and OpenAI came to the conclusion of $1,000 will provide basic needs like basic needs and healthcare, but the flip side, it led to more debt and reduction in work overall.
